Real time wear analysis

With our real time wear analysis process, you can

  • complete measurements based on operating point and run time
  • determine and optimise relevant variables and system parameters in a targeted fashion
  • improve resource usage throughout the entire system
  • optimise components in a targeted fashion
  • quickly analyse damages.

We would be happy to utilise our in-house RNT measurement system and over 35 years of practical experience on specific tribological questions to solve your problem.

Thin film differential measurement processes

For components not lubricated with liquid media (such as valves in combustion chambers, wastegate rods), material removal due to wear can be determined down to 1 nm/h through direct measurements (differential measurements).

Filter concentration measurement process

We choose this process when the component to be assessed is part of a fluid circuit: Lubrication or conveyed material, oil or fuel. We first add a radioactive marking to an area of the component, then measure the abrasive wear in this zone through concentration measurements in fluid media, and in a filter if necessary.

We typically complete the entire handling process, in particular installing and removing the component with radioactive marking in the system or engine and measurements, in house. We utilise external solutions in specialised cases.

We record removal of wear particles with a high level of precision. This amount of wear cannot be recorded with a classic scale, making it practically “unweighable”. Since measurements are also completed during ongoing system operations, we can provide run time and operating point specific wear analyses down to a resolution of 0.1 nm/h.

We support your entire development process: from identifying the right questions to follow-up controlling for the solution.

Applications

Rotational measurements: We verify rotations and other movements (0 to 10 Hz), even on hidden components not accessible for other processes.

Medium transfer: We measure material mixtures, for instance of fuel in oil or oil in fuel, with a resolution of up to 1 µl/min.

Specialised applications: As a measurement equipment manufacturer, we are open to examining your specific problems and would be glad to develop a custom solution for you.
